Bamboo Bread Baskets
  • A small basket that can sell a surprising amount of stock – soaps, crystals, jewellery, wax melts and all those fiddly little lines look much more tempting gathered together for a rummage.

  • Stock and shop equipment in one – sell them empty, fill them as gift baskets, or use them to display and sell something else. A useful little three-in-one.

  • Make an almost instant gift – add shredded paper, soaps and smellies, wrap in cellophane and finish with a ribbon. Ordinary shelf stock becomes a higher-value present.

  • Made for impulse pick-ups – place one by the till with pocket-money treats, tumble stones, small accessories or last-chance lines.

  • A natural fit in almost any shop – simple bamboo works with boho, apothecary, foodie, crystal, rustic and country-style displays without taking over.

  • Useful from counter to café – display trinkets and wrapped goods, hold fruit, or line with a napkin for bread rolls.

  • Try them as mini shopping baskets – handy in boutiques selling tiny things; customers can collect their haul and, with luck, increase the other kind of basket size.

  • Proper practical wholesale basket-ware – imported from rural China, light to move, easy to stack and ready for the hundred little jobs every shop eventually finds for them.

These are the classic round bread baskets, probably used by market traders since Adam & Eve opened the first under-the-tree craft market. "Dawn of Time Crafts"

Always useful to have a-round... a simple basket. Jolly useful to display trinkets, to display crystals, to display jewellery, soaps or apples. Even bread rolls are sometimes seen in bread baskets.

But the basket itself can be part of the sale. When a customer wants to make an actual Gift Basket, toss in some shredded paper, add those soaps and smellies, wrap it in cellophane, finish with a ribbon and can you Adam & Eve it? An almost instant gift – made mostly from stock already sitting on your shelves.

Some trendy little boutiques selling tiny things – jewellery, gemstones and the like – offer bamboo baskets to customers as mini shopping baskets. Collect your haul, head to the pay point... where there might also be a basket or two filled with last-second impulse pick-ups. Funny that.

These wholesale bamboo baskets are imported from rural Shandong in China, from a district where people have been weaving useful things from plant fibres for generations. It grew from a household side-line into a proper rural industry.

And the dawn of time bit is not completely made up. Evidence of basketry in China survives as impressions on Neolithic pottery. The baskets themselves rotted away thousands of years ago; the idea clearly did not.

Not complicated. Just the humble round bamboo basket. Useful for bread, useful for gifts, useful for displays and very useful for selling things.

From the dawn of time, every shop has needed a few baskets.
