Anyone who has travelled around Bali will have seen – and almost certainly heard – gongs in temple grounds, village ceremonies, processions and traditional gamelan performances. In Balinese music, a gong does more than simply make a sound. Its deep note marks a moment, carries across the other instruments and can seem to hang in the air long after the mallet has struck.
The metal gong is cast in Bandung, Java, then tuned and decorated in Bali. The albasia-wood stand is carved and finished in Bali.
