RRP: €16.80

This large Lokta notebook brings together traditional Himalayan papermaking and bold floral design in a format customers immediately recognise as something special. Handcrafted in Nepal from sustainably sourced Lokta paper, each piece has natural texture, subtle variations, and a tactile quality that mass-produced notebooks simply cannot replicate.

The moss green cover is finished with pressed botanical details and natural dyes, creating a calm, organic look that works beautifully in lifestyle, stationery, gift, and mindful living retail spaces. A wooden closure and fabric bookmark add a practical yet artisanal finishing touch, making the notebook feel considered and complete.

Inside, 45 handmade pages offer a smooth writing surface ideal for journaling, sketching, note-taking, or thoughtful gifting. The generous size makes it particularly appealing for customers looking for a statement notebook rather than a small add-on item.

What is Lokta Paper?

Lokta is a natural, eco-friendly paper made from the bark of the Daphne plant, which grows in the high-altitude forests of the Himalayan region, particularly in Nepal. The plant is notable for its ability to regenerate after harvesting, making it a sustainable resource that doesn’t require deforestation.

To make Lokta paper, the bark is stripped from the plant without damaging its roots. It's then soaked, pulped by hand, and spread into sheets using traditional wooden frames. These sheets are sun-dried and sometimes further embellished with petals, leaves, cotton fibres, or natural dyes. The process is labour-intensive but environmentally low-impact, often carried out in small village workshops as part of fairly traded, community-led production.

Lokta paper is valued for its strength, durability, and rich texture. Unlike mass-produced papers, it has a naturally fibrous, slightly irregular surface that gives it a distinctive handmade character. It’s resistant to tearing and humidity, making it popular for wrapping, bookbinding, and crafting.
